Just months after a hugely successful NZ Comedy Festival, Danny’s stand-up comedy show is coming to town! Join him as he tries to explain everything that puzzles and confounds us. This will be Danny’s second appearance at the Hamilton Fringe.

Well, sort of. My run at this year’s New Zealand International Comedy Festival is over. Check the review below from TVNZ:

Possibly Auckland’s smallest comedy venue, The Brooklyn Bar, was packed for the debut of Scouse comic Danny McChrystal’s first show of the festival.

And he didn’t disappoint.

It’s Danny’s first solo show this year having usually been on the boards with fellow comic Reuben Lee but despite the absence of his former partner, he’s self assured, funny and scornfully funny.

Even Danny himself seemed a little bemused at how small the packed cavern like bar was with a feeling people “were right up in his face.”

But that didn’t put him off.

Opening with an hilariously strong riff about the drinking ads – you know, the one with the “Don’t bring your mates along”, he’s a master at turning the sublime into the sublimely funny.

That initial piece sets the tone for the night as he paces the relatively tiny stage turning his attention to many things – from too many ads on free to air TV during movies to a clear hatred of the world of office work, there’s plenty of recongisable material to get your teeth into.

With a playful scorn and a self punctuating (slightly nervous) laugh at the end of his set pieces, McChrystal covers all manner of topics and while he throws in some slightly corny gags here and there, you forgive him because of the strength of the rest of his material.

Affable and amusing, as well as acidic in places, McChrystal is well worth your time – it’s just a shame the Brooklyn Bar corridor like feel doesn’t provide the best venue for his clearly obvious talents.

From one half of the massively successful Full English shows from the 2009 and 2010 New Zealand International Comedy Festival comes Danny’s first solo show.

Come on in as Danny invites you to join him for an hour as he embarks on a mission to understand it all. Whatever you believe in, no comedic stone will be left unturned as we explore life, science, religion and ultimately ourselves in an attempt to answer the age-old question, “What’s it all about?”

He might not have all the answers but he does have quite a lot of jokes to make up for it.

I just wanted to say a massive thank-you to everyone who came along or supported Full English 2 which finished on Sat 1st May. The whole week, covering five shows, was an incredible experience and easily ranks as one of the best times of my life. The crowd were stunning every night and I hope those that did come along did have a great night (it certainly sounds like you did!). That is the last of Full English for now as both Reuben and I want to move on to solo projects. I do realise how wanky that sounds.

Cheers!

Very exciting news. Tickets are available from Ticketek from here. Opening night has almost sold out!

So go and buy one. I mean please. Tickets are just $15 each. If you are popular enough to have at least three friends, save 20% off the price by booking at the same time.

*IMPORTANT UPDATE* Full English is at the Elliott St Comedy Cellar (just over the road from The Civic Theatre) on Sat 24th, Wed 28th, Thu 29th and Fri 30th April and Sat 1st May. All shows are at 10pm.

Our sell-out comedy show from this year will be reappearing at the NZ International Comedy Festival in 2010. The festival runs from 23rd April to 16th May. Our shows will again be at the Transmission Room on Saturday 24th April, and then the following week from Wednesday 28th April to Saturday 1st May. So next year, you have five nights to choose from. More details will be uploaded over the next few weeks but we promise that Full English 2 will be even better than the first.

If you haven’t already, join the Full English Facebook group here:

That’s right. For one night only at the Fringe Bar in Wellington, Full English will be performing their sell-out comedy festival show. Friday 13th November is the date so mark it in your diaries, write it on your hand or etch it into your arm with your keys. Tickets are a bargain at just $10 (no booking fees or any of that rip-off bollocks).

Thanks to everyone who came to see ‘Full English: The Empire Strikes Back!’ last weekend at the Classic Studio. Both shows ended up selling out and much fun was had by all. Don’t forget to join our Facebook group for further updates as we get closer to the 2010 NZ Comedy Festival and planning starts on our show for next year:

I told you didn’t I? I did. See the press release below for details on our second run of Full English:

For those of you unfortunate to miss our hugely successful sell-out run at this year’s NZ International Comedy Festival, I have good news. You have one more chance.

For two nights only, join Danny McChrystal and Reuben Lee at the intimate Classic Studio for a show that promises lots of laughs from two of New Zealand’s up and coming comedians. Both were nominated for awards at last year’s NZ Comedy Guild Awards. Both are ex-pats from the North of England. And both are painfully funny. You will leave the show with your jaws believing they have just been through reconstructive surgery. Who could pass up on an opportunity like that?

From God’s incoherent ramblings to losing your virginity, no subject is off-limits in the show no matter how dark or controversial it may be.

Show also features another rising star of NZ comedy. Stella Graham is the MC.

Tickets are strictly limited – contact us now to avoid disappointment (again).

Dates: Friday 11th & Saturday 12th September.
8pm start, duration of show 1hr+
Location: Classic Studio, 321 Queen St, Auckland CBD

Tickets: $10
